Archaeological Site Museum of Nanyue Palace

The Historic Site of the Nanyue Kingdom Palace is the seat of the Nanyue and the Nanhan Palaces containing 12 cultural strata from the Qin dynasty to the Republic of China. It is the witness of Guangzhou being the political, economic and cultural center in Lingnan region, also called as "the essence of the historic city Guangzhou Thus, the theme of its permanent exhibitions is called Two-Thousand-Year Center of the Lingnan Region'.

The exhibitions are divided into 4 parts, "The Nanyue Kingdom Palace, The Nanhan Kingdom Palace", "Guangzhou-a City with Two-thousand-year History and Rich Culture and "Guangzhou's Ancient Well Culture. Since 1995, many important archaeological discoveries have been made on the site. The royal garden of Nanyue, consisting of a large stone pond and a crooked stone brook, is the earliest and the best-preserved royal garden discovered so far inChina. Remains of two halls, corridors, wells, a scientific drainage system and a batch of wooden slips of Nanyue were unearthed. The wooden slips have provided first-hand data for studying the history of the kingdom, and are called as "the foremost wooden slips of the Lingnan Region." Besides, the remains of the palace of the Nanhan Kingdom and more than 500 wells of different periods were unearthed on the site as well.

The museum is consist of the Site ReserationBuilding for the Crooked Stone Brook. the MainExhibltion Building, Equipment Buiding and the SiteResevation and Exhibition Zone. covering an area of 30060 square meters. The exhibition center on the Nanyue Kingdom palace and royal garden, along with the Nanhan Kingdom palace and other cultural remains 2200 years, reproducing historic site of the Nanyue Kingdom Palace.

The Crooked Stone Brook was discovered in 1997, totalling some 160m in length. It meanders from north to south, imitating the course and rustic charm of a natural brook. The royal garden of the Nanyue Kingdom consists of a large stone pond and a crooked stone brook. Of all the remains of royal gardens builtin the Qin-Han Period, those of the Nanyue Kingdom is the best preserved and of the greatest antiquity.
