New Guangdong Provincial Museum
The old Guangdong Provincial Museum was on Wenming road, the new one is located in Zhuangjiang new town, near the New Guangzhou TV tower. It looks like a quadrate box, which set up in a big garden shared with the Guangzhou opera house. The museum opened on May 18, 2010, to the public. Entry is free (but bring your passport).
The new Guangdong Provincial Museum has on display over 166,000 items spread over more than 20,000-square-meters of exhibition area. Like the previous Guangdong Museum, access is free to all three parts of the museum – Lingnan history, natural history and art. The museum open from 9am to 5pm from Tuesday to Sunday.
Many national treasures can be found there. Large quantity and high quality of Chinese Ceramics and paintings rank the highest of all the museums nationwide. Here, Guangdong relics, gold carvings and ink stones are the most abundant and reflect the local features mostly. This one in Guangdong Provincial Museum is worth over a hundred million yuan in present antique market. However, it is pricess beyond the number in fact.
You'll need about 2-3 hours to get through everything. If you have 4 hours of free time, and enjoy museums this one is a must see.
To get here: Zhujiang New Town, Walk towards the American Embassy, and after which you cross the road to get to the Opera House and continue walking to the Guangdong Provincial Museum, near to the Guangzhou Library.
