For Muslim travelers, halal food is a big concern and is a need, Guangzhou was the earliest residential place of Muslims in China. At peak time, there were over 100,000 Muslims in Guangzhou. Due to the ban on maritime trade in Ming and Qing Dynasties, the overseas Muslims were less and less. Till now, there are only thousands of Muslims in Guangzhou City, consequently, there are not so many Muslim restaurants here. There are two areas that are famous for Muslim dine and cuisine. One is along the road of Huanshi Lu (lu is mean Road, Huanshi Dong Lu and Huanshi Zhong Lu) There are up to 12 Muslim and Halal Restaurant over there, another one is in Shanyuanli and Guangxiao Lu. Xinyue Muslim Restaurant and Wuyang Huimin Restaurant are the highly recommended Muslim restaurants in Guangzhou City.

The Tomb of the Ancient Sages Mosque

Guangzhou Muslim | Guangzhou Mosque - Tomb of Ancient Sages Mosque

The Tomb of the Ancient Sages Mosque is the largest worship place for Muslim people in Guangzhou. It was first built in the 3rd year (629) of Zhenguan, Tang Dynasty (618-907). The Masque covers an area of about 1,860 square meters including the constructed area of about 1077 square meters. The Masque is a garden-style cemetery which was built to honor of 40 famous Arabic Muslim missionaries. The major architectures are the prayer hall, pavilion, wing-room, and other facilities. The prayer hall is a two-floor building, which can hold 3000 people to do prayer. Most of the existing buildings in the temple are the architectural style of the Ming Dynasty.
