Discover Yong Qing Fang: A Historical and Cultural Gem in Guangzhou
Yong Qing Fang, located on Enning Road in Guangzhou's Liwan District, boasts a storied history spanning over a century. In the late Qing Dynasty, Enning Road emerged as a key economic zone in southern China, where overseas Chinese brought the unique architectural style of the colonnaded buildings, creating the longest and most intact street of its kind in Guangzhou.
The name "Yong Qing Fang" derives from Yong Qing Street, which leads to Luanyutang, a former training ground for opera performers. In the 1920s and 1930s, this area became a vibrant hub for Cantonese opera, hosting numerous opera troupes and artists. Notable figures such as Li Haichuan (Bruce Lee’s father), Liu Meiqing, and renowned stage designer He Bixi have historical ties to this locale.
Cultural Significance and Modern Transformation
Yong Qing Fang has undergone significant renovations, transforming it into a modern commercial district while preserving its historical essence. The area is home to several cultural venues, including the Cantonese Opera Art Museum, the Bahe Guild Hall, Luanyutang, and the Li Xiaolong Former Ancestral Residence, offering a glimpse into the rich heritage of Cantonese opera.
In 2012, the Liwan District Government collaborated with Vanke Property Developers to develop this project, officially naming it Yong Qing Fang. After its grand opening on September 30, 2016, it evolved into a creative park for business and cultural activities. Following a visit by President Xi Jinping on October 24, 2018, Yong Qing Fang attracted an increasing number of tourists. By August 22, 2020, it was recognized as a National 4A Tourist Attraction, becoming a popular hotspot for visitors and a trendy social media destination.
