Nansha Tianhou Palace, close to the Pearl River estuary Lingding Ocean, is located in the southeast foot of Dajiao Mountain. Surrounded by mountains and water, with buildings scatters in different altitudes by the mountain line, the temple is splendid and the buildings are magnificent.

At the center of Tianhou Square is the stone statue of Tianhou (the Empress of heaven), and it is built to commemorate the goddess of the sea, Lin Mo. The architecture combines both the style of the Forbidden City in Beijing and the sublimity of Sun Yat-sen's Mausoleum in Nanjing. Tianhou Palace Scenic Area is now managed by Guangzhou Nansha Tourism Development Co. Ltd. and was approved as a national AAAA-level scenic spot in 2015.

The main hall is the center of Nansha Tianhou Palace. Inthe wood-carved shrine, two statues of the Goddess are honoured. One is plated and carved from thousand-year-old sandalwood, and the other is the inspecting statue of the Goddess consecrated from the hometown of the Goddess, Mazu temple in Meizhou.

The Qin Hall is Located behind the main hall, the resting hall is the living room of the Goddess, where a sculpture of the goddess in plain clothes is displayed, decorated with some instruments of her daily life.

The Nanling Pagoda is 45 meters high, and this 8-storey Pavilion-style Architecture is the highest point of the whole palace.

On the solemn archway, there are five gold-plated letters of "Nansha Tianhou Palace" over the top, which was inscribed by former Chairman of the National Religious Association, Mr. Zhao Puchu.

The Statue Of Tianhou is standing at the center of Tianhou square, the statue of Tianhou is about 14.5 meters high. It is made of 365 pieces of granite, symbolizing that the empress of Heaven will bring favourable weather and bring peace and prosperity for the whole year.

Tianhou Lake is a place where tourists could set free small creatures. The lake is calm, and it is green and glittering, as beautiful as green silk.

Linghui Building and Jiaying Pavilion are named after the title of the Empress of Heaven bestowed by the Song Dynasty. This is the place to introduce the beliefs of Tianhou and exchange the culture of Tianhou.

The Tianhou Square covers an area of 1.5 hectares, with two ornamental columns standing on the square, meaning auspicious and wishful.

The mount gate is the main gate of Tianhou Palace, where honoured the statues of two legendary immortals, Clairvoyance (thousand-mile eye) and Clairaudience (wind-accompanying ear).

The Dajiao Mountain Forts has mainly composed of seven forts, which have been officially listed by the State Council as national priority cultural relic protection sites in 1982. The seven forts open to tourists now are Zhenwei Fort, Zhending Fort, Anping Fort, Ansheng Fort, Anwei Fort, Anding Fort and Ansheng Fort (renamed as Liuxing Fort afterwards).

The Hall of Blessing is located right behind the mount gate, where the statue of the Empress of Heaven is honoured, with four Dragon Kings (the Gods of the sea) standing at each side, holding up a jade tablet, meaning that the goddess commands the peace and stability of the four kings.

There are the bell tower and drum tower on both side of the mount gate, with the bell and drum in both towers being hit on time. During festivals, the bells and drums are ringing in unison, making a jubilant atmosphere.

How to get there

1. Take bus Nan 4/ Nan 54 to Tianhougong Dongmen (East Gate of the palace).
   2. Take metro Line 4 to Nansha Passenger Port, and then walk south for about 15 minutes to the palace.
