Important Note

In a bid to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus, Guangzhou has closed most major tourist attractions, they were "monitoring the situation" and would reveal when they could re-open in due course. We do not recommend traveling to Guangzhou or China before the end of March 2020.

Heungshan Industrial & Bazaar Gourmet Day Tour

Begin the journey from your Guangzhou downtown hotel at 10 am, drive to Heungshan (about 1.5 hours). With a flat terrain, Heungshan is endowed with a dense network of waterways, renowned for its fish farming ponds, rice paddies with silkworm mulberry trees planting around, forming an effective system of agriculture. It is also an unforgettable feature of the Pearl River Delta.

First we will visit the Chinese Bazaar, this Bazaar has a long history, it set up in the South Song Dynasty (1127-1279), it has moved to several places but never closed. It moved to the present location in 1990s. There are almost everything can be found here at a bargaining local price (not a tourist price). Clothes, general merchandise, flowers, birds, insects, fishes, fruits, herbs, hardware, furniture, Chinese wares and more miscellaneous, etc. are all available in this Bazaar, the list is endless, you cannot find everything, but you will see things you haven't seen elsewhere.

Guangzhou Bazaar

Once you're deep in the bowels of the bazaar, it will seem like there is no order and no escape, but the market is arranged into relatively coherent sections. It is hustle and bustle on Bazaar Day, not only a perfect place for good bargains, but an ideal opportunity to experience the daily life and local culture. Some customers even come all the way from Hong Kong, Macau, and other places in Guangdong to come to this Bazaar for shopping, sightseeing, and recalling the memory of the past. This market is surely a worth visit as an extra program for those who have 2 or 3 days in Guangzhou.

Guangzhou Bazaar

This market has many stalls selling different kind of fruit juices, you can always buy them in the market and without any inflation. A number of Chinese-style eating and snacking can be found in here too, if you tired and hungry after a long walk around the market, you can happily throw yourself inside any food stall to enjoy the mouth-watering foods.

Clay Pot Rice Bowl

Then we will drive 30 minutes to the farmer-run restaurant and enjoy the delicate Cantonese style Clay Pot Rice Bowl & Roast Pigeon as lunch, with a bunch of Chinese charcuterie (cured pork belly, Chinese sausage, dried shrimps, etc), whip up a quick sauce, and stir it all together with fresh green onion. you get those slightly crispy bits of rice at the bottom of the pot.

Soy Sauce Factory

The last place we will visit is a Soy Sauce Factory. In the factory, we can learn how soy sauce was discovered, as well as the soy sauce history, both the traditional & modern process of manufacturing soy sauce. We will see the factory production line. At the end of the tour through the factory we will come to a tasting area, the specially-made soy egg & the soy sauce ice cream are a must try. At the end of the tour, you will go through a shop in the factory where you can buy all sorts of soy sauce for less than half the price you will pay in supermarkets.

This tour is only available on the Bazaar Day of the 3rd, 6th, 9th of every month according to Chinese lunar calendar. Please make inquiries before booking. There are not much covered space around the stalls and there are no other place to hide you during the rain. Huge Crowd in the search of a shelter during the rain makes it impossible to accommodate everyone under the sheds. It is better to avoid this market during the rain.
