To train cadres to meet the needs of the rapidly developing worker-peasant movement in the First Revolutionary Civil War (1924-1927), Comrade Mao Tsetung headed and directed the National Institute of the Peasant Movement in Guangzhou from May 1926. The Institute enrolled 327 trainees from 20 provinces and regions in the country. Comrades Chou En-Iai, Hsiao Chu-nu, Peng Pai and Yun Tai-Ying were among the teachers.
