Hoiping World Heritage Diaolou Tour

The unique castle-like dwellings (diaolou) of Hoiping have UNESCO World Heritage status and display a flamboyant fusion of Chinese and Western architecture. Thousands of oversea Chinese returning to their home country from overseas in the 1920s and 30s built these fortified towers in this distinctive style to protect against bandits.  Today few of these villages and Diaolous has been recently restored,  and some of them became quite famous tourist destination as Li Yuan garden, Zilicun, Majanlong, but other hundreds of villages are worthy of a visit featuring beautiful castle fashioned buildings and stunning decorations.

Begin your day with pickup from your central Guangzhou hotel in the morning (pickup times will be confirmed upon booking). Traveling aboard a comfortable car, set out on the 2 hour journey to Hoiping county, passing a scenic panorama of lush rice fields, green farmlands, and rural villages.

Kai Ping Chikan Town

The first stop is Chikan ancient town, jump out to explore the historic old town with us. Hear how the town was established during the Qing dynasty as you stroll along the banks of the Tan River and admire the striking 1920s merchant buildings, with their decorative pillars and balconies overlooking the water.

Kai Ping Zili Village

Break for lunch at a local restaurant, and then continue to the Zili village and explore two of the most impressive watchtowers – the six-story Mingshi Lou and five-story Yunhuan Lou, both built in the early 1920s. They are built by returning Chinese migrants who incorporated Western-inspired features in their design. Inspect the different styles of the towers close up, and head inside to absorb the interiors and bird’s-eye views from the rooftops.
